How We Verify a Broker
We do not trust a broker's own marketing page, and neither should you. Every claim about EightCap on this site is checked against a primary source: the broker's own legal documents, regulator registers, or the tax and exchange-control rules published by Pakistani authorities.

The core question we answer first is simple: who legally operates the entity you would send money to, and does that entity accept clients resident in Pakistan?
What We Check Before Anything Else
Four data points decide whether a broker review is even usable for a Pakistani reader.
| Check | What we look for | Result for EightCap |
|---|---|---|
| Local licence | SECP authorisation for retail forex/CFD | None found |
| Offshore onboarding | Acceptance of PK residents | Not verified |
| Regulator of operating entity | FCA, ASIC, CySEC or similar | Named per entity |
| Serving status | Open, restricted, or closed to PK | Unsupported |
A broker can hold a strong licence abroad and still be closed to your country. Those are two separate facts, and we never merge them into one headline.
The Licence Question, Read Correctly
EightCap is not unregulated. It is a global broker founded in 2009, headquartered in Melbourne, Australia, and it holds licences in several jurisdictions for the markets it serves. What it does not hold is a Pakistani licence.
- Licence it holds
- No Pakistani (SECP) licence and no offshore onboarding of Pakistani residents verified
- What it covers here
- Not served/unsupported per available sources
- What it does not cover
- Eightcap is not a single fully top-tier protected entity
- Where to check
- tradersunion.com/brokers/forex/view/eightcap/available-countries
That matters practically. The SECP does not issue retail spot-forex or CFD broker licences locally, and the SBP does not permit margin-based currency trading inside Pakistan. So there is no local licence for any offshore broker to hold. The correct question is not "is this broker legal in Pakistan" but "which foreign regulator supervises the entity that would hold my funds, and what does that supervision actually cover."
Practical points to verify yourself:
- Name the exact legal entity on the client agreement, not the brand.
- Confirm that entity's regulator in the public register.
- Check whether that entity accepts Pakistani residents.
- Read the client agreement for the jurisdiction and dispute forum.
Account Terms and Real Costs
These are EightCap's published terms, listed for reference. They apply to the regions the broker serves, and Pakistan is not one of them.
| Item | Standard | Raw |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum deposit | USD 100 | USD 100 |
| Spread from | 1.0 pip | 0.0 pips |
| Commission | None | USD 3.50 per lot per side |
| Platforms | MT4, MT5, TradingView, WebTrader, TradeLocker | Same |
Instruments run to 800+ CFDs: roughly 56 forex pairs, indices, metals, energies, about 580 share and ETF CFDs, and 100+ crypto CFDs. Base currencies are AUD, USD, EUR, GBP, NZD, CAD and SGD depending on region. No PKR account has been verified.
Funding Reality in Pakistan
Pakistan not being served means there is no verified PKR rail for EightCap, and no verified onboarding for residents.
For brokers that do serve Pakistan, the usual rails are bank transfer, mobile wallets Easypaisa and JazzCash, and e-wallets such as Skrill and Neteller. Some residents route via USDT P2P. Most deposits settle quickly, but accounts are normally denominated in USD, so the PKR-USD conversion applies on both entry and exit.
| Platform | Runs on | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| MT4 | desktop / web / mobile | Forex and CFDs, expert advisors |
| MT5 | desktop / web / mobile | Multi-asset, more timeframes |
| TradingView | desktop / web / mobile | Charting and community |
| WebTrader | desktop / web / mobile | Browser, nothing to install |
SBP exchange controls set the outer frame. Reported limits as of the review: card-based transactions capped around USD 30,000 per year, individuals and sole proprietors often limited to roughly USD 10,000 per year for outward remittances, and remittances above prescribed limits require SBP FEOD approval through the banks' FX Portal. Verify current figures with the SBP, since these thresholds move.
Just as important: fund an offshore account only through legitimate banking channels. Using Hawala or Hundi, or any platform that bypasses the banking system, is illegal and puts your capital outside any recovery route.
The Selection Criteria That Matter
If your goal is a durable broker relationship, the licence tier of the entity you sign with is the single strongest filter available to you. Offshore-only registration with thin supervision is the most common weak point we see in reviews built for this region, and it is the reason we weight regulator quality above spreads, bonuses or platform branding.
Four things separate a broker worth your money from one that is not:
- A licence from a tier-one regulator (FCA, ASIC, CySEC) covering the entity you actually contract with.
- Segregated client funds held at a separate bank, stated in writing.
- Commission and spread disclosure that matches what you see on the statement.
- A track record long enough to survive at least one full market cycle.
Tax and Reporting You Cannot Skip
Trading profit for residents is generally taxed as income. Where it is treated as capital gains on movable assets other than exchange-traded securities, it falls under the individual's normal slab rates. Foreign shares and mutual funds carry a specific flat rate of about 15%. Crypto gains are taxed at a flat 15% CGT as of the review. Confirm with the FBR, since rates change with each budget.
The reporting requirement catches people by surprise. Residents are taxed on worldwide income and must file a Foreign Income and Assets Statement if foreign income exceeds USD 10,000 or foreign assets exceed USD 100,000 in the tax year. A funded broker account abroad is a foreign asset.
Before You Commit Money
Three checks take under an hour and prevent most problems, and they need to happen before your first deposit rather than after it.
| Step | Action | Where |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Confirm the legal entity on your agreement | Client agreement PDF |
| 2 | Confirm that entity's licence status | Regulator public register |
| 3 | Confirm the deposit and withdrawal rail | Broker payments page |
Test the withdrawal early. Fund a small amount, trade it, and withdraw it before you scale up. Withdrawal behaviour tells you more about a broker than any review, including ours.
What Changes for a Beginner and a Veteran
A new trader in Pakistan is exposed to two risks at once: a broker that may not accept the market, and signals or account-management groups promising fixed returns. SECP issues investor alerts against unlicensed investment and futures schemes, and the common patterns are consistent: unlicensed forex or MLM structures paying old money with new, Telegram and WhatsApp signal groups, and clone broker apps using a real brand's name. For a beginner, the licence check is not bureaucracy, it is the whole defence.
- Suits
- Standard (commission-free) and Raw
- Swap-free
- Conflicting reports
- Does not suit
- Eightcap is not a single fully top-tier protected entity
- Currency note
- AUD, USD, EUR, GBP, NZD, CAD, SGD depending on region
For an experienced trader, the calculation shifts. You already know how to read a spread, so the deciding factor becomes which entity holds your funds and which regulator that entity answers to. If your broker's operating entity sits outside tier-one supervision, your recourse in a dispute is weak regardless of how good the platform feels. That is the trade-off worth weighing, and it is why we publish the serving status and the licence geography for every broker we cover, including ones we would otherwise rate well for platform quality.
Neither profile needs to leave the international broker category. Both need to choose within it on supervision, segregation and disclosure.
Eightcap is not a single fully top-tier protected entity; its coverage depends on which subsidiary the trader is placed under, with ASIC, FCA and CySEC entities offering stronger oversight than the SCB offshore entity, which is materially weaker on investor protection. A trader using the weaker structure gives up the best practical protections of a top-tier broker: legally segregated client money backed by a statutory compensation scheme such as FSCS or CySEC’s fund, so if the broker fails recovery is less certain and coverage can be absent or lower.
Questions
How do you verify a broker's licence for Pakistan?
There is no local SECP licence for retail forex or CFD brokers, so the check is on the foreign entity. Take the legal name from the client agreement and confirm it in that regulator's public register, then verify with SECP (secp.gov.pk) and SBP (sbp.gov.pk) whether any local restriction applies.
Do I need to report an offshore trading account to the FBR?
Yes, if it qualifies. Residents are taxed on worldwide income, and a Foreign Income and Assets Statement is required when foreign income exceeds USD 10,000 or foreign assets exceed USD 100,000 in the tax year.
Is the minimum deposit the only cost to compare?
No. The USD 100 minimum for Standard and Raw accounts is only the entry threshold. Add the spread, the commission on Raw accounts at USD 3.50 per lot per side, and the PKR-to-USD conversion, which is usually the largest single cost for a Pakistani resident.
